"Do your duty; learn and teach. Speak truth; learn and teach."
Taittiriya Upanishad
When I started my journey with yoga it was an immense feeling of relief, both in my body and spirit. I felt this as a homecoming.
I undertook a three year British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) accredited teacher training with Jenny Beeken of the Inner Yoga Trust (IYT) and qualified in 2006.
The IYTs ethos is that to be a yoga teacher you need to have an active personal practice and continual exposure to yoga teachings. The IYT also has a core belief that everybody is capable of movement and gives teachers clear guidance on understanding how people move and where problems may lie in an individuals physiology. This yoga practice should be achievable whilst still being challenging for every individual regardless of their health and flexibility.
I have regularily attended workshops and retreats with patrons of the IYT, Victor van Kooten and Angela Farmer . Victor and Angela are inspirational and creative teachers using the power of imagery in body movement and focussing on the deep healing that yoga can bring
Since qualifying I have found great inspiration from teachers who worked with Vanda Scaravelli. I have studied with Diane long (Vanda Scaravelli's longest student), Sophy Hoare and Sandra Sabatini. I now work closely with Sophy Hoare and have regular ongoing practice with her.
I have a keen interest in the "New Anatomy" that has arisen from Tom Myers groundbreaking work on myofascia and have undertaken training with yoga teachers that bring this approach to anatomy within the yoga framework.
Gary Carter of Natural Bodies in Brighton is reknown for developing this work and I have attended workshops and trainings with him. Specifically his "Yoga &Anatomy Series Training for Teachers".
Doug Keller has also developed this approach to anatomy and has delivered trainings both in Europe and America. I recently undertook a Yoga as Therapy training intensive with him on "Understanding and addressing the sources of pain".
I am currently developing my practice of meditation with Maarten Vermaase of Mahasidda Yoga Centre, towards a level 1 BWY Meditation qualification.
My own personal practice gives me the time and space to understand new things every day. My students bring me challenges and teachings with their various and changing needs. And through this journey I am supported by my teachers with the direction and inspiration they give.
Namaste
